Honors Dr. Sidney C. "Sid" Phillips, Jr., of Mobile, a retired family practice physician and World War II Marine veteran whose experiences were chronicled in the 2010 HBO miniseries "The Pacific" and Ken Burns' PBS documentary "The War"

Dr. Phillips enlisted in the United States Marines on December 8, 1941, at age 17 and served with Hotel Company, 2nd Battalion, 1st Marine Division, participating in the Guadalcanal Campaign and other famous battles

Born in Mobile on September 2, 1924, Dr. Phillips was inspired while witnessing wounded soldiers at a battlefield surgical tent to pursue a medical career upon returning home

Recognized for a lifetime of exceptional achievement, dedicated service, and saving many lives through expert medical care provided to countless Alabamians

Adopted by the Alabama House on April 1, 2010, and the Senate on April 6, 2010
