Commends Mr. J. Smith Lanier, II, on receiving the 2010 George H. Lanier Boy Scout Distinguished Citizen Award, to be recognized at the Distinguished Citizen Award Dinner on March 11, 2010, at the Valley Community Center.

Acknowledges Mr. Lanier's education including Auburn University and the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and Naval commission, plus two years of active duty during the Korean War.

Recognizes his business leadership as Chairman Emeritus of J. Smith Lanier & Company, one of the oldest and largest insurance brokerage firms in the United States, and his founding role in five publicly trading companies.

Honors his extensive philanthropic and educational contributions, including founding Springwood School in Lanett, Alabama, serving as first Dean's Advisory Board Chair of Auburn University's College of Human Sciences, and leading a campaign that raised $9.6 million for a Center for Therapeutic Recreation at Roosevelt Warm Springs Institute for Rehabilitation.

Notes his awards including National Small Business Person of the Year and his induction as the 28th member of the USMMA Distinguished Hall of Graduates in October 2009.
