McLaughlin was first elected in 2000 and represents House District 27 in northwest Marshall County.

Earned a Bachelor's degree from Birmingham-Southern College and Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from Harvard Law School.

Served in leadership roles including director of Guntersville Chamber of Commerce, past president of Marshall County Bar Association, past director of Marshall County Red Cross, past team leader of United Way of Marshall County, and chair of Guntersville Historic Commission.

Member of St. William Church of Guntersville and Lake City Civitan Club; married to Stacy with three children: Frank, William, and Mary Crawford.
