SB112 Summary

• Amends Alabama Code Sections 17-5-8 and 17-5-9 to authorize electronic filing of campaign finance disclosure reports for contributions or expenditures exceeding $25,000.

• Electronic filing must be submitted over the Internet in a computer format prescribed by the Secretary of State, who shall provide software at no cost to filers.

• Electronic filing requirement is voluntary for four years after the effective date, then becomes mandatory thereafter.

• Secretary of State shall promulgate rules to ensure security, data protection, and validation of electronic reports; no supporting documentation is required to be attached to electronic reports.

• The act becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
