AL SB120

Allows a serving President Pro Tempore of the Alabama Senate who is reelected at the general election to continue serving in that capacity until the succeeding organizational session.

If the serving President Pro Tempore is not reelected or ceases to be a Senate member for any reason before a successor is elected, the Legislative Council member with the longest service in the Senate shall serve as President Pro Tempore temporarily.

A member serving as President Pro Tempore under the temporary provision is considered to hold a vacant office that may be filled by Senate election pursuant to Section 48.01 of the Alabama Constitution.

Becomes effective immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor or upon otherwise becoming law.
