First conviction for cockfighting-related offenses (selling, training, fighting cocks, operating facilities, possessing fighting devices, wagering, paying admission, involving minors, or knowingly permitting violations) becomes a Class A misdemeanor with a fine of $10,000.

Second or subsequent conviction for cockfighting offenses becomes a Class C felony with a fine of $20,000, plus forfeiture of all profits and property used in or derived from cockfighting.

Being knowingly present as a spectator at cockfighting preparations or exhibitions, or knowingly aiding another in cockfighting, is a Class A misdemeanor.

Persons who regularly keep cocks must register the location with the Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries for disease control purposes.

Confiscated fighting cocks are held by a veterinarian or animal shelter pending condemnation proceedings; cocks may be destroyed if injured, diseased, or lacking useful purpose, and housing expenses are charged to the owner.
