SB141 Summary

• Continues the existence and functioning of the Board of Home Medical Equipment Services Providers under Alabama's Sunset Law with statutory modifications.

• Requires all board members to be citizens of Alabama and have no record of sanctions related to fraud under federal or state law.

• Governor shall appoint minimum of nine persons within 90 days of August 1, 2000, including a majority from the home medical equipment services industry, plus at least one consumer, physician, acute-care hospital representative, and home health agency representative.

• Board members serve 3-5 year terms with one-third replaced annually beginning in year four, receive no compensation but are reimbursed for reasonable travel and meeting expenses, and board membership must reflect Alabama's racial, gender, geographic, urban/rural, and economic diversity.

• Board vacancies must be filled by the Governor within 60 days, with industry representative vacancies filled from lists submitted by the Alabama Durable Medical Equipment Association or its successor.
