SB26 Summary

• Amends Section 16-13-232 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to allow local school boards to use alternative calculation methods for determining teacher units when approved by the State Superintendent of Education.

• Beginning with the 2009-2010 school year, alternative calculation methods may be used in extreme circumstances involving natural occurrences, health-related occurrences, or other extenuating circumstances.

• Authorizes the State Department of Education to determine alternative calculation days on a case-by-case basis instead of the standard first 20 scholastic days following Labor Day.

• The act becomes effective immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor.
