SB289 Summary

• Amends Sections 31-9-6 and 31-9-9 of the Alabama Code to authorize the Governor to enter into mutual aid agreements with federally recognized Indian tribes, in addition to existing authority to enter agreements with other states and the federal government.

• Allows mutual aid agreements between the Governor and Indian tribes to cover food, clothing, medicine, supplies, engineering services, emergency housing, police services, fire fighting, rescue, transportation, construction services, and related personnel and equipment.

• Authorizes local emergency management agency directors to develop mutual aid agreements with federally recognized Indian tribes located within the state for reciprocal emergency management aid and assistance.

• Requires copies of local mutual aid agreements with Indian tribes to be filed with the State Director of Emergency Management.

• Takes effect on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
