SB310 Summary

• Amends Section 36-29-16 of the Alabama Code to allow certain state employees who have served 24 consecutive months in the executive, legislative, or judicial branches and reached age 50 to continue participation in the State Employees' Health Insurance Plan after leaving employment.

• Requires former employees electing to continue coverage to pay 100% of the insurance costs under terms and conditions prescribed by the group insurer, with no cost to the state.

• Permits coverage to extend to the former employee's spouse, qualified legal dependents, and applies rate adjustments applicable to the group as a whole.

• Mandates employees must have been insured under the plan for a minimum of 18 months before leaving state employment to be eligible for continued participation.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
