SB463 Summary

• Amends Alabama Code Section 11-47-7.1 to authorize municipalities to levy additional court costs in municipal courts up to the amount of district court costs for similar cases.

• Expands permitted uses of collected court costs from exclusively operation and maintenance to also include purchase of land and construction and equipment of municipal jails, correctional facilities, juvenile detention centers, and court complexes.

• Requires court costs to be deposited into a special municipal "Corrections Fund" and allocated exclusively for the specified purposes.

• Provides retroactive effect to validate all prior uses and allocations of Corrections Fund money for land purchases, construction, and equipment of municipal correctional and court facilities.

• Becomes effective immediately upon passage and gubernatorial approval.
