SB513 Summary

• Amends Section 32-7A-9 to allow the Administrative Office of Courts, circuit clerk, or county license plate issuing official to collect motor vehicle registration reinstatement fees for liability insurance violations, in addition to the Department of Revenue.

• Establishes reinstatement fee amounts of $100 for first violations and $200 for second or subsequent violations, with owners required to submit proof of current insurance.

• Designates fee distribution: collecting entities retain a percentage (10% for county officials, 15% for circuit clerk or Administrative Office of Courts) for technology and operational expenses, with remainder remitted to the Department of Revenue.

• Requires 15% of net proceeds received by the Department of Revenue to be deposited into the Alabama Peace Officers' Annuity and Benefit Fund.

• Becomes effective January 1, 2011.
