SB526 Summary

• Private or denominational hospitals cannot be required to permit their facilities for abortions, abortifacient drugs, human embryonic stem cell research, human embryo cloning, euthanasia, or physician-assisted suicide.

• Physicians, hospital employees, and health care entity staff members cannot be required to perform, assist, or participate in these procedures if they object on ethical, moral, or religious grounds.

• No person can be required to agree to perform or participate in these procedures as a condition of training, employment, pay, promotion, or privileges.

• Hospitals and health care entities cannot discriminate against or discipline individuals based on their ethical, moral, or religious beliefs regarding these procedures.

• Civil actions for damages and/or reinstatement of employment may be brought for violations of the act, which becomes effective immediately upon passage and gubernatorial approval.
