SB553 Summary

• When a vacancy occurs on the Perry County Commission with 12 or more months remaining on the term, the judge of probate shall immediately make provisions for a special election to fill the vacancy.
• The special election must be held no sooner than 60 days and no later than 90 days after the seat becomes vacant.
• Primary elections, if necessary, and the general election shall be conducted in accordance with state law, with the elected person serving the remainder of the unexpired term.
• The act becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
