SB580 Summary

• Restructures the Alabama Music Hall of Fame Board from seven members appointed by the Governor to seven members appointed through a new process involving the Directors of the Alabama Tourism Department, Alabama Mountain Lakes Association, and the Governor.

• Establishes staggered initial terms: two members serve four years (Tourism Director appointments), two members serve four years (Mountain Lakes Association appointments), and two members serve two years (Governor appointments), with successor members serving six-year terms.

• Allows the six appointed members to select one additional seventh member by majority vote, with initial term of two years and successor terms of six years.

• Requires board members to be Alabama residents and limits successor members to serving a maximum of two full six-year terms, except for the initial seven members.

• Changes board leadership selection from annual election to each October beginning in 2010, and adds requirement to annually elect a secretary and treasurer; reduces quorum requirement from a majority to four members.
