SB592 Summary

• Establishes the Autauga County Work Release Board composed of the circuit clerk, chief jailer, and sheriff to develop and administer the Autauga County Work Release Program.

• Allows qualified inmates in Autauga County Metro Jail to be released during employment hours, including travel time to and from work.

• Creates the Autauga County Work Release Fund to receive inmate wages paid directly by employers, with the board authorized to deduct up to 40 percent of gross wages for confinement costs and law enforcement purposes.

• Requires remaining inmate wages to first be applied to court-ordered child support, then credited to the inmate's account for release upon discharge, or distributed to family with written inmate consent.

• Repeals Act 419 of the 1975 Regular Session and becomes effective immediately upon passage and gubernatorial approval.
