SB60 Summary

• Proposes a constitutional amendment allowing elected or appointed Etowah County officials, including the sheriff, to participate in the Employees' Retirement System instead of supernumerary programs.

• Prohibits any Etowah County officials from assuming a supernumerary office after the amendment's effective date, but allows those already entitled to participate in supernumerary programs to continue doing so.

• Permits current Etowah County officials to purchase service credit in the Employees' Retirement System for time served in their current office.

• Excludes judges, district attorneys, legislators, constables, school board members, and officials elected from judicial circuits from the amendment's scope.

• Prohibits individuals from participating in both a supernumerary program and the Employees' Retirement System based on the same service.
