U.S. Department of Energy designated Alabama's community action agencies as preferred subgrantees for federally supported weatherization programs under Part 440 and Title II of the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964.

Alabama's community action agencies have provided energy assistance and human services for more than 45 years to vulnerable low-income populations including the elderly, persons with disabilities, families with children, and households with high energy burdens.

ADECA received approximately $75 million in grant funds from the U.S. Department of Energy to administer the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) weatherization assistance program.

Legislature urges ADECA to work vigorously to ensure each weatherization program subgrantee receives necessary support for successful delivery of program resources to low-income communities.

Legislature urges ADECA to work closely with the Alabama Weatherization Association and Community Action Association of Alabama to provide training, technical assistance, and support to community action agencies serving as ARRA Weatherization Assistance Program subgrantees.
