SJR 132 Summary

• Commends the First Baptist Church of Talladega, Alabama, for its distinguished 175-year history since establishment on May 31, 1835, with ten charter members.

• Church grew to over 600 members by 2010 and hosted the Alabama Baptist Convention in 1841, 1857, 1878, 1888, and 1906, including agreement to establish Howard College (now Samford University) which was chartered in 1841.

• Church relocated to current North Street location in February 1932 with first services in the present sanctuary held in December 1948 and education space added in 1962.

• Church has been led by 23 ministers, ordained more than 22 men for gospel ministry across the state and nation, and established three mission churches: Central Baptist Church (October 1902), Southside Baptist Church (February 1954), and Northside Baptist Church (May 1955).

• Women's Missionary Society founded in 1875 supported youth and children's programs and sent three women as career missionaries overseas to China and Africa.
