Honors Vice Admiral Regina M. Benjamin, MD, MBA, 18th Surgeon General of the United States, for her contributions to health care in Alabama and nationally.

Recognizes Dr. Benjamin as the Constance S. and James A. Pittman Lecturer at the University of Alabama Medical Alumni Association's 37th Annual Medical Alumni Weekend on February 19-20, 2010.

Acknowledges her role as founder and former CEO of the Bayou La Batre Rural Health Clinic and former Associate Dean for Rural Health at the University of South Alabama College of Medicine.

Celebrates her historic achievements, including becoming the first physician under 40 years old and first African-American woman elected to the American Medical Association Board of Trustees in 1995, and the first African-American female president of a Medical Society in the United States in 2002.

Commends her oversight of 6,500 uniformed health officers serving globally to promote, protect, and advance the health of the American people.
