HB182 Summary

• Amends Alabama Code Sections 31-9-6 and 31-9-9 to authorize the Governor and local emergency management agencies to enter into mutual aid agreements with federally recognized Indian tribes.

• Adds "including federally recognized Indian tribes" to the Governor's authority to enter into reciprocal aid agreements or compacts with other states and the federal government for emergency management purposes.

• Authorizes local emergency management directors to develop mutual aid agreements with federally recognized Indian tribes located within the state for reciprocal emergency management aid and assistance during disasters.

• Mutual aid agreements remain limited to furnishing or exchange of food, clothing, medicine, supplies, engineering services, emergency housing, police services, health services, fire fighting, rescue, transportation, and construction services.

• Became effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor, passed by House on April 12, 2011 and Senate on June 2, 2011.
