HB209 Summary

• Authorizes the Alabama Department of Homeland Security to hire, appoint, and maintain APOST certified state police officers and special agents to enforce state laws and fulfill the department's mission.

• Grants the department's officers and special agents the same powers, authority, benefits, and compensation as those employed by the Alabama Department of Public Safety under Chapter 2 of Title 32 of the Code of Alabama 1975.

• Requires officers and special agents to be subject to the same Peace Officers' Standards and Training requirements as Department of Public Safety personnel under Article 3 of Chapter 21 of Title 36 of the Code of Alabama 1975.

• Authorizes the Director of the Alabama Department of Homeland Security to promulgate rules necessary to implement the act.

• Repeals any conflicting provisions in Section 31-9A-9, Code of Alabama 1975, and becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
