HB437 Summary

• Creates the Governor's Mansion Authority to preserve, operate, and maintain the Alabama Governor's Mansion (Ligon House), the John Blue-Hill House, and adjacent properties in Montgomery known as the Governor's Mansion Complex.

• Authority composed of 17 members including directors of state archives, historical commission, finance director, and representatives from heritage organizations, business council, and the Governor's spouse; members serve without compensation.

• Authority has exclusive control over the complex and requires prior approval for any exterior, interior, or content changes, except for private living quarters of the Governor and family.

• Establishes the Governor's Mansion Preservation Fund in state treasury to receive appropriations, gifts, grants, and donations; fund remains available and does not revert to general fund.

• Repeals Sections 41-9-530 to 41-9-532 of Code of Alabama 1975 relating to the Governor's Mansion Advisory Board; becomes effective the first day of the third month following passage.
