HB 495 Summary

• Amends criminal background check requirements for security officer applicants by requiring submission of fingerprints to the Alabama Bureau of Investigation for state criminal history checks, with fingerprints forwarded to the FBI for national criminal history checks at applicant's expense.

• Allows the Alabama Security Regulatory Board to determine licensure fees with caps: contract security company licenses capped at $500 (not to increase more than $50 per licensing period) and security officer licenses capped at $150 (not to increase more than $25 per licensing period).

• Removes exemptions for contract security companies and individuals employed by such companies with fewer than 100 security officers, thereby requiring them to obtain board licenses and comply with licensing requirements.

• Removes exemption for persons 65 years of age or older who work as security officers or contract to provide security services directly to individual businesses or business entities.

• Effective date: first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
