HB565 Summary

• Increases the age of consent for sexual acts from 16 years of age to 18 years of age in Alabama.

• Amends six sections of the Code of Alabama 1975 related to rape, sodomy, sexual abuse, child enticement, and the definition of a child in sexual offense statutes.

• Updates rape in the second degree, sodomy in the second degree, and sexual abuse in the second degree offenses to apply to victims under 18 rather than under 16 years old.

• Makes violation of child enticement laws applicable to children under 18 years of age instead of under 16 years of age.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor, or upon otherwise becoming law.
