HB58 Summary

• Requires public officials, candidates, and their spouses who are employed by or have contracts with state or federal government (or work for companies receiving 50% or more revenue from the state) to file disclosure with the Ethics Commission within 30 days of employment start or contract beginning.

• Filing must include the official or candidate's name, spouse's name, employing department or agency, job description or contract description, employment or contract dates, and all compensation including salary, allowances, and fees.

• Applies retroactively to those already employed or under contract on the effective date, requiring notification within 30 days of the act becoming effective.

• Requires prompt notification to the commission of any changes to employment terms or contract terms, with the commission updating its records accordingly.

• Makes all filings public record and requires the Ethics Commission to post the disclosures on its website.

• Becomes effective 60 days following passage and approval by the Governor.
