HB70 Summary

• Amends Section 24-1-28, Code of Alabama 1975, to regulate municipal public housing authority property purchases in Class 3 municipalities.

• Requires municipal public housing authorities in Class 3 municipalities (except those organized under Act 618 of 1973) to provide notice to surrounding property owners before purchasing real property.

• Mandates notice be sent via first class mail to each residential and business address within 300 yards of the proposed property at least 30 days prior to execution of any binding purchase agreement.

• Restricts property purchases by housing authorities to public housing purposes only in affected Class 3 municipalities.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
