HB84 Summary

• Amends Section 41-23-82 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to increase the Alabama Energy and Residential Codes Board membership from 15 to 18 members.

• Adds the Director of the Alabama Building Commission (or designee) as a nonvoting ex officio member, bringing total voting members to 17 (15 Governor-appointed and 2 legislative appointees).

• Specifies board membership includes representatives from 15 designated organizations and industries (home builders, contractors, utilities, municipalities, insurance, architects, and others) plus two legislative members selected by the Permanent Joint Legislative Committee on Energy Policy.

• Maintains requirements that Governor-appointed members be state legal residents selected on basis of interest in residential energy resources and without regard to political affiliation.

• Takes effect immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor.
