HJR157 Summary

• Creates a Chronic Kidney Disease Task Force composed of 26-27 members including legislators, state health officials, nephrologists, patient advocates, and representatives from kidney organizations.

• Task force shall assess the current and future impact of CKD on Alabama residents, examine existing services and resources, and develop a state response strategy including examination of CKD trends, long-term care needs, and prevention/treatment policies.

• Members serve without compensation; task force shall hold public meetings, utilize webcasts for public feedback, and regularly update Alabama's Congressional Delegation on CKD-related healthcare and transportation needs.

• Chair of task force shall create up to three advisory sub-task forces; legislative members receive regular compensation and per diem, while non-legislative members may be reimbursed according to their respective agency policies.

• Task force must submit a State CKD Plan to the Governor and Legislature by the tenth legislative day of the 2015 Regular Session, at which time the task force dissolves; total expenses not to exceed $4,000.
