HJR181 Summary

• Continues the Old Federal Road Task Force to study and promote the Old Federal Road as a historical trail, amending Act 2007-414 from the 2007 Regular Session.

• Task force shall be composed of directors from the Alabama Historical Commission, Department of Archives and History, Tourism Department, and Transportation Department, plus four university presidents, one Senate member, three House members, and one House member from each congressional district where the road is located.

• Task force must present annual findings and recommendations to the Legislature, Governor, and Attorney General beginning in 2012, with a final report due by the tenth day of the 2015 Regular Session, at which time the task force will be dissolved.

• Members serve without compensation but may be reimbursed for per diem expenses with total expenditures not to exceed $4,000 ($1,000 annually) from the effective date until dissolution in 2015.

• Designates a specific transitional route through nine counties (Russell, Macon, Montgomery, Lowndes, Butler, Conecuh, Escambia, Baldwin, and Mobile) using state and county roads until the official Old Federal Road route is designated and developed.
