Recognizes Montgomery Police Officer J.A. Edwards as a nominee for the 2011 Alabama Legislative Medal of Honor for Law Enforcement, the state's highest law enforcement award for extraordinary courage in the line of duty.

Officer Edwards and his partner interrupted a violent rape in progress during late night hours on July 9, 2010, after responding to a woman's screams near a pub, causing the assailant to flee the scene.

The suspect was apprehended and positively identified as a result of expert police work, leading to his arrest and incarceration.

Officer Edwards saved the victim from severe or potentially deadly injuries and demonstrated excellent judgment by staying with the victim to assess her condition while coordinating efforts to locate and apprehend the offender.

The House and Senate adopted the resolution on April 27, 2011, and May 3, 2011, respectively, and directed that Officer Edwards receive a copy as a token of the legislature's admiration and esteem.
