Commends Al Worthington, a Birmingham native and Phillips High School graduate, for his induction into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2011.

Worthington pitched in Major League Baseball for 16 years, initially attending the University of Alabama where he helped the Crimson Tide reach the 1950 College World Series.

Played for the Chicago Cubs, New York Giants, Cincinnati Reds, and Minnesota Twins, earning a World Series ring with the Giants and setting a career record of 21 saves with a 2.13 ERA in his second season with the Twins.

Helped the Minnesota Twins reach the 1965 World Series before retiring after the 1969 season, later serving as a pitching coach and head coach of the Liberty University baseball program for 13 years.

Alabama Legislature directs that a copy of the resolution be provided to Worthington with tribute and praise for his exceptional athletic accomplishments.
