• Commends Dr. Dennis L. "Dan" Ireland, honorary Chaplain of Goat Hill, for his outstanding spiritual service to the Alabama Legislature

• Ireland was born March 17, 1930, and earned a Bachelor of Arts from Samford University (1952), Master of Divinity from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary (1958), and Doctor of Divinity from Samford University (1976)

• Ordained into ministry on August 28, 1949, and served 64 years as pastor of five Baptist churches before becoming Executive Director of the Alabama Citizens Action Program (1978-2008)

• Since 1978, has served in advisory capacity to seven Governors, numerous constitutional officers, and thousands of Alabama legislators, and participated in Governor's Task Force on Drunk Driving, National Coalition Against Legalized Gambling, and American Council on Alcohol Problems

• Is survived by wife Pauline Tucker (married almost 60 years), two children, four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren
