Mr. John Paul Singleton of Holt, Alabama, died on April 15, 2011, at the age of 101 years.

Served as president of the Tuscaloosa Board of Education during school integration and was a prominent businessman who rose from clerk to president of Central Foundry.

Received Tuscaloosa Citizen of the Year in 1957, Pillar of West Alabama in 2005, and induction into Tuscaloosa County Civic Hall of Fame in 2008.

Led community organizations including United Fund (now United Way), Rotary Club, and Boy Scouts Black Warrior Council, and served on deacon board of Holt Baptist Church.

Survived by two sons, eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; preceded in death by wife Nell Murphy Singleton and son Paul Singleton, Jr.
