Commends Mr. Douglas C. Purcell, a resident of Eufaula, Alabama, for his exceptional professional achievement and service upon his retirement from the Historic Chattahoochee Commission after over 30 years of service.

Mr. Purcell graduated from The University of Alabama with a degree and graduate study in history, served as Captain in the United States Army Reserve from 1969 to 1977, and became Executive Director of the Historic Chattahoochee Commission in 1972.

Mr. Purcell has been an active member of Eufaula First United Methodist Church and numerous civic organizations including the Eufaula Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, Main Street Eufaula, and various historical preservation groups.

Mr. Purcell received numerous awards including the Alabama Historical Commission Distinguished Service Award (1981), Alabama Preservation Alliance Merit Award (1996), and Historic Westville Legacy Award (2009).

The House of Representatives conveys its highest esteem and best wishes to Mr. Purcell on his retirement.
