• Reed, the park manager and former starting quarterback at Aliceville High School who had served seven years in a Mississippi prison, rescued at least 12 victims by lifting heavy appliances, brick walls, and rubble off them without regard for his own safety.

• After ensuring his fiancee and children were safe when he found his fiancee trapped under an air conditioner unit, Reed pulled multiple other victims to safety from the wreckage.
