AL SB146

Creates the crime of threatening harm or violence against a judicial system officer or employee or their immediate family member based on official duties or to deter/influence performance of those duties.

Threatening a judicial system officer or employee is a Class C felony; becomes a Class B felony if the threat involves physical contact or display of a deadly weapon or dangerous instrument.

Adds murder of a judicial system officer or employee or immediate family member related to their official position, act, or capacity as a capital offense eligible for the death penalty.

Includes threatening harm or violence against a judicial system officer or employee as an aggravating circumstance in capital offense cases.

Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
