SB222 Summary

• Amends Section 36-25-7, Code of Alabama 1975, to require that prohibited offers, gifts, solicitations, or receipts must be "for the purpose of corruptly influencing official action" rather than simply for influencing official action.

• Prohibits any person from offering or giving anything to public officials, public employees, or their household members for the purpose of corruptly influencing official action, regardless of whether the thing has monetary value.

• Prohibits public officials and employees from soliciting or receiving anything for themselves or family members for the purpose of corruptly influencing official action.

• Defines "corruptly" as acting voluntarily, deliberately, and dishonestly to either accomplish an unlawful end or result, or to use an unlawful method or means to accomplish an otherwise lawful end or result.

• Became effective immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor.
