SB225 Summary

• Increases the minimum contract amount requiring competitive bidding for higher education institutions from $7,500 to $15,000 under Code of Alabama Section 41-16-20.

• Applies to all contracts for labor, services, work, materials, equipment, supplies, and personal property made by or on behalf of state higher education institutions.

• Maintains the "preferred vendor" priority system allowing awards to in-state vendors whose bids are no more than five percent greater than the lowest responsible bidder.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
