Amends Section 13A-12-27 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to increase the penalty for possession of a gambling device from a Class A misdemeanor to a Class C felony.

The crime applies to anyone who manufactures, sells, transports, places, possesses, conducts or negotiates any transaction affecting ownership, custody or use of a slot machine or other gambling device with intent to use it in unlawful gambling activity.

Bill is exempt from Amendment 621 constitutional requirements regarding local expenditures because it defines a new crime or amends the definition of an existing crime.

Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor, or its otherwise becoming law.
