SB235 Summary

• Amends Alabama Code Section 13A-12-214.1 to add eleven additional named synthetic cannabinoid compounds to the list of prohibited substances, including JWH-019, JWH-200, JWH-250, JWH-398, CP 47,497, and others.

• Prohibits any chemical compound capable of exhibiting cannabinoid-like psychoactivity, creating a broad catch-all provision beyond the specifically named compounds.

• Violations remain subject to existing penalties: Class C felony for possession, except Class A misdemeanor for first offense possession for personal use.

• Bill is excluded from Amendment 621 constitutional requirements regarding local expenditures because it defines a new crime or amends the definition of an existing crime.

• Takes effect on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
