SB280 Summary

• Authorizes the State Fire Marshal to issue permits to certified potable water single family dwelling fire protection sprinkler contractors, in addition to existing general fire protection sprinkler contractors.

• Creates a new category of "Certified Potable Water Single Family Dwelling Fire Protection Sprinkler Contractor" for contractors installing sprinkler systems in single family dwellings using potable water per NFPA 13D standards.

• Establishes permit requirements for potable water sprinkler contractors requiring applicants to be licensed Master Plumbers in Alabama and pass a competency test administered by the State Fire Marshal's Office, with a $100 nonrefundable application fee.

• Maintains existing permit requirements for general fire protection sprinkler contractors requiring NICET Fire Protection Layout Technician Level III certification and a $100 application fee.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
