SB333 Summary

• Amends Section 16-28-3 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to lower the mandatory minimum school attendance age from seven years old to six years old

• Children between ages six and 17 must attend public school, private school, church school, or receive instruction from a competent private tutor for the entire school term, with exemptions for church school attendance prior to age 16

• Public school admission shall be granted on an individual basis upon parental or guardian application to the local board of education at the beginning of each school year, subject to board rules and regulations

• Bill is excluded from Amendment 621 constitutional requirements despite creating new or increased local expenditures because it applies only to school board expenditures

• Effective on the first day of the third month following passage and Governor approval, or upon otherwise becoming law
