SB343 Summary

• Creates the Governor's Mansion Authority to preserve, operate, and maintain the Alabama Governor's Mansion (Ligon House) and adjacent historic properties in Montgomery known as the Governor's Mansion Complex.

• Authority composed of 17 members including directors of state agencies, historical commissions, university representatives, and the Governor's spouse, with members serving without compensation and meeting at least once annually.

• Authority has exclusive control over the Complex and requires prior approval for any exterior, interior, or content changes, except for private living quarters of the Governor and non-structural decorative changes.

• Authority may solicit gifts and grants, operate visitor centers and parking lots, charge fees for tours and transportation, publish materials, and hire specialized staff such as architectural historians and conservators.

• Repeals Sections 41-9-530 to 41-9-532 of the Code of Alabama 1975 relating to the Governor's Mansion Advisory Board and becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage.
