Electronically generated prescriptions must contain patient name, drug name/strength/quantity, prescriber directions ("product selection permitted" or "dispense as written"), prescriber name, and prescription date with electronic signature.

Computer software generating e-prescriptions cannot use advertising, instant messaging, pop-up ads, or other means to influence prescribing decisions at point of care, except to communicate availability of generic medication equivalents.

Software cannot trigger influence tactics in response to a prescriber's specific input or selection of a particular pharmaceutical or pharmacy.

Software may display payor formulary, co-payment, and benefit plan information provided it does not preclude or impede selection of any particular pharmacy or pharmaceutical.

The act becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
