SB 51 Summary

• Amends Section 16-13-231 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to reduce the minimum required school term from 180 to 175 full instructional days for the 2012-2013 and 2013-2014 school years only.

• Local boards of education that fail to operate the minimum 175-day term during these two school years will have their Foundation Program allowances computed only for the actual days schools are in session.

• After the 2013-2014 school year, the minimum requirement reverts to 180 full instructional days as previously established.

• Excludes the bill from constitutional Amendment 621 requirements because it requires expenditures only by school boards, not local governmental entities.

• Effective date: first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
