SB510 Summary

• Proposes a constitutional amendment to restructure Auburn University's Board of Trustees from the system established by Amendment 670, effective June 1, 2012.

• Establishes a 15-member board consisting of one member from each of seven districts, one additional member from Lee County, five at-large members, and the Governor as ex officio president.

• Creates an appointing committee composed of the Board President Pro Tempore (or designee), a board-selected trustee, two Auburn Alumni Association members, and the Governor (or designee), with the Governor serving as chairperson.

• Sets seven-year terms for all positions with limits of two consecutive seven-year terms or 20 years total; prohibits service after age 75 and requires Senate confirmation for all appointments.

• Repeals Amendment 670 of the Alabama Constitution and requires voter approval through a statewide election.
