Alabama was devastated by the greatest number of tornadoes in a single event on April 27, 2011, causing hundreds of fatalities, thousands of injuries, and destroying countless homes, buildings, and businesses.

Tuscaloosa was one of the hardest hit areas during the tornado disaster.

Mayor Walt Maddox of Tuscaloosa is highly commended for his outstanding dedication and leadership in relief efforts, combining compassion and professionalism to help restore, rebuild, and recover the community.

Mayor Maddox is directed to receive a copy of the resolution as an expression of sincere gratitude for his unparalleled contributions to his community and state.

The resolution was adopted by the Senate on May 24, 2011 and by the House of Representatives on May 25, 2011.
