SJR69 Summary

• Creates the Alabama Job Creation and Military Stability Commission chaired by the Lieutenant Governor, with vice chairs from the President Pro Tempore of the Senate and Speaker of the House.

• Commission membership includes four House and Senate members, state agency directors (Adjutant General, Homeland Security Director, Alabama Development Office Director), retired senior military officers from Redstone Arsenal, Anniston Army Depot, Maxwell Air Force Base, and Fort Rucker, and civic leaders from affected military communities.

• Commission shall study and evaluate all Department of Defense resources, military forces, and civilian contractors in Alabama, including economic impacts and job creation effects to proactively ensure stability of military assignments.

• Establishes four advisory groups representing Tennessee Valley BRAC Committee, Friends of Fort Rucker, Montgomery Chamber Military Support Council, and Calhoun County Chamber Military Affairs Council to advise on military issues.

• Commission must meet at least once every four months during legislative interim periods only, provide annual reports to the Legislature beginning in 2012, with annual expenses capped at $1,000.
