• Commends Mr. Douglas C. Purcell, a resident of Eufaula, Alabama, for exceptional professional achievement upon his retirement after over 30 years of service as Executive Director of the Historic Chattahoochee Commission.

• Mr. Purcell graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree and graduate study in history; served as Captain in the United States Army Reserve from 1969 to 1977; and became Executive Director of the Historic Chattahoochee Commission in 1972.

• Recognized for numerous awards including Outstanding Young Men in America (1975), Alabama Historical Commission Distinguished Service Award (1981), and Historic Westville Legacy Award (2009), among others.

• Active member of Eufaula First United Methodist Church and numerous civic organizations including the Eufaula Rotary Club, Eufaula Heritage Association, and Eufaula Historic Preservation Commission.
